I really like this mask.

Unluckily, sometime, happen that eyes of the masked person are misaligned respect to the mask.
Probably it depend on the pose of the mask. :-|

Venice, Carnival 2011: The Red Queen - Crimson hearts

I photographed this mask Monday morning, during the 2011 Venice Carnival.
It has been one of the few moment during which the light of the sun shined trough the clouds.
During these minutes I've been able to capture this Red Queen of Hearts mask.

I really like the black metal part of her mask around her right eye.
And the white rose with red hearts is a nice touch :)

It's wonderful to see the dedication that all these masks put in the details of their costumes. I praise them all!

Venice, Carnival 2011: The scary mask - From the hell... with a smile

I've photographed this mask in Piazza S. Marco in Venice.
The square was crowded of people, but this mask was at least half meter tallest than the crowd... :-)
There were two of them, but due to the crowd I've been able to take a decent shot only of this one.

Venice, Carnival 2011: Dancing on the stilts - Waltz in St. Mark's Square

Here you can see one of the performer during waltz taken place in Piazza San Marco, Venezia, on 6 march 2011.
This was a particular valzer, danced on stilts. Very nice to see :)
The waltz was performed by dancers from "Teatro tascabile di Bergamo".
They are very good at dancing. I love the hat of the dancer in the photo, she was very elegant and graceful.

Venice, Carnival 2011: Violet jester mask - Her eyes...

I love her eyes in the first shot...
She was a very nice mask. It was a cold morning in Venice: she was moving continuously to fight the cold... but she always moved like a jester :-)

Venice, Carnival 2011: The gentle gold mask - The eyes and the cloth

Here is another mask from the 2011 Venice Carnival.
I love her (or his?) gentle eyes...

Venice Carnival tips: Use the flash of your camera, especially during the day :-) I've used the flash in most of my photos to have a key light in the eyes of the mask. My flash was set to a -2 stop exposure: you can see the key-light in the eyes of the mask, but the subject exposure remain substantially unchanged.

Venice, Carnival 2011: Red corset mask - Like a pirate :-)

Here is another mask from the 2011 Venice Carnival.
I've shot this mask at 7:18 AM in S.Marco square. This is the best time to shot mask in Venice. 

Venice Carnival tips: be prepared for sudden temperature change. Sunday afternoon there was 15 °C and a light pullover was enough... but Monday morning there was 1°C and a strong cold wind.

This is a mask of the hundreds present during the 2011 Venice Carnival.
I love Venice... it's the kind of place where one must go at least once in it's life (especially during the carnival :-).

Venice Carnival tips: If you go to Venice by train, reserve your seat. The seats on "regional/local" train are not bookable, and travelling on them mean being packed like sardines.

This is a mask of the hundreds present during the 2011 Venice Carnival.
What a fantastic holidays! Venice is a fantastic city!

Venice carnival tips:  Take with you a map of Venice, find a good map with a 1:5000 scale, like these one.
With a good map you'll be able to: 1) don't get lost  2) take the needed shortcut to stay away from the hordes of tourist 3) see and shot many interesting place with few tourists, they all go to S.Marco square :-)

Venice, Carnival 2011: Gold and cyan mask - The eyes of the stars

This is a mask of the hundreds present during the 2011 Venice Carnival.
I've been in Venice for 2 days. Venice is a fantastic city, and the carnival is amazing!
There are so many gorgeous masks! 

Venice carnival tips: Go to Venice and stay at least 2 days. The second day wake up early, set the alarm for six and half, then be in S.Marco square at 7 o clock. You'll find good light, a hundred of mask posing for hundreds of photographers, and no hordes of tourists :-)
